The Retreat at Groenfontein is a guest house located, appropriately enough, in the Groenfontein Valley Conservancy, not far from Calitzdorp in the foothills of the Swartberge. Comfort and luxury amid peace and solitude.
Being a conservancy, nature comes first at Groenfontein. With, for example, not a power pylon in view the valley looks much as it would have done a century ago. Against the backdrop of the mighty Swartberge and amid hills, kloofs, streams and pools one's soul can achieve the rest and solitude it needs from time to time.
The original guest house accommodation consists of four en-suite guest rooms, all with French doors opening onto a patio. The lounge and the dining room, both with cosy hearths, open onto the stoep and views of the gardens and the mountains.
Additionally, there are two luxury suites in garden annexes each with their own lounge area and fireplace as well as two bedrooms, and two luxury rooms, also in garden annexes.
As well as the luxury accommodation we have four standard (3 star) bedrooms at the main house, all comfortable and enjoying the facilties, patio and views.
Eating at The Retreat is a pleasure with plenty of Karoo lamb dishes and various Cape specialities. Vegetarians and those requiring special diets have their needs catered for. To complement your meals we have a fine cellar of wines from the Calitzdorp area.
Your meals will be served on the stoep or in the dining room in front of a friendly fire, depending on the weather.
