...at the foot of the majestic Swartberg Mountain Range, lies the exclusive Swartberg Private Game Lodge and your opportunity to experience to best that holiday rental has to offer. Within a wildlife estate, adjoining the World Heritage Site of the Swartberg Nature Reserve, the area is malaria-free and boasts an abundance and variety of wildlife. Guests can explore a unique, ecologically diverse environment from the comfort of the Karoo-colonial style Lodge.

Meticulous attention to detail, homeliness with understated sophistication, a large well equipped farm-style kitchen, spacious bedrooms, expansive patios and a crystal clear pool make the Lodge a wonderful retreat.

Accommodation is for a maximum of 10 adults (or 12 if with children sharing), in 5 bedrooms. Additional accommodation may be available by special arrangement.

Directions to Swartberg Private Game Lodge

From Cape Town:


  • Follow the N2 to Swellendam
  • 11 km after Swellendam, take the turnoff left marked R324 Barrydale
  • Continue 15km, through the village of Suurbraak, and take left turn marked R324 Barrydale
  • Continue 17 km through the Tradouw Pass.
  • At T‐junction with Route 62, turn right. Continue approx 130 km, passing through
  • Barrydale, Ladismith and Calitzdorp.
  • 13km beyond Calitzdorp, take left turn marked first Red Stone Hills, then Kruisrivier.
  • The road is gravel from this point.
  • Travel for 16km. At the grey house with white trimming, turn right at the sign marked “Kango Grotte”.
  • 7km further you will reach the Swartberg Private Wildlife Estate, Lodge Gate on the left.


From Oudtshoorn:

  • Follow Baron von Rheede (R328) North towards the Cango Caves
  • At approximately 27 km from Oudtshoorn, Wilgewandel will be on your right.
  • Turn left at the sign Prince Albert (continuing straight would arrive at Cango Caves)
  • Drive for 12 km, until left turnoff marked Matjiesrivier / Calitzdorp
  • After 11km the tar roads ends
  • Travel a further 7km on the dirt road, and the Lodge Gate will be on your right.
