The Anglo Boer War marked a time in our SA history when families, neighbors, friends and the country were separated and broken up as never before or after. It started because of the want of another nation for the treasures of the of the gold and diamond mining industries that was discovered in SA.
It was a show of who people really were from hero to coward, honest to treacherous, from affection to hatred, from those dedicated to their heavenly Father to those floating not knowing where they were going. The choices were left to each individual either to stay put and pretend the others has no case or to join a small group for a quest to protect those who did not want to be involved but wanted to be free.
The difference between comfort and luxury had never been so clear. For some it was dying from hunger and exhaustion just to be refreshed the next day and be braver than ever in the next conflict.
The area was often visited by Generals Wynand Malan, Kritzinger, JA Smith, Commandant Gideon Scheepers and even General Jan Smuts. For those interested, tours will be packaged as need be.
A Martyr`s life symbolizes this war which was not meant to happen: Gideon Scheepers.
