Date: 6th August 2014 to 6th August 2014

The Well-Digger's Daughter

Jacques Mazel and Patricia Amoretti are young people who live in a small village while Europe is at the brink of World War II. They fall in love with each other but Jacques gets called up as a pilot. He has to comply immediately because he's supposed to replace a pilot who just recently broke his leg. Jacques leaves an explanatory letter for Patricia but his mother resents her and makes her believe she was forsaken by Jacques. Later Patricia realizes that Jacques has left her with child. Still she refuses to marry her father's friend Félipe because she knows that her younger sister Amanda has a crush on Félipe. Consequently she is cast out by her family. Eventually Jacques returns from the front and learns he has a son.

Let us hope the lovers will overcome the obstacles separating them. When it appears that it may actually happen, Patricia's self-respect almost gets in the way. Although single moms were more frowned upon, she refuses to think of herself as a lost girl, or to apologize for her baby boy.

Tickets, available at the door at R20 each, are available at the John Rupert Theatre on Wednesday, 6 August from 6.30pm onwards. Movie starts promptly at 7pm.

See you there!
