Date: 13th June 2015 to 19th July 2015
The annual Calitzdorp Port & Wine Festival is being rejuvenated in 2015 with a unique full month “Winter in Calitzdorp” experience instead of just a festival weekend.
Input from our tourists and festival visitors showed that more people will visit Calitzdorp over the period 13 June to 19 July 2015 than a single festival weekend, and so the exciting new venture was adopted by the organising committee.
Visitors will not only be treated by our halcyon, mild winter weather but will have ample opportunity to enjoy our champion red wines, and naturally, the flagship offering from our area, the champion Cape Ports. The local cellars, Axehill, Boplaas, Calitzdorp Cellar, De Krans, Du’SwaRoo, Peter Bayly, TTT and Withoek will offer winemaker led tastings at each of their individual cellars. Unusual food and wine parings, including our renowned ports, will be on offer together with a fabulous diversity of other festive events.
The Cape Port (and all the various styles of this fortified wine) and wines of the Calitzdorp area are highly acclaimed, having garnered sought after awards such as SA Champion Port (SAYWS), Veritas double gold, Michelangelo double gold and Platter 5 Star status - a veritable treasure trove of fine wines and port.
Portuguese cultivars such as Tinta Barocca, Touriga Naçional, Souzao and Verdelo thrive in the Calitzdorp climate and visitors are often unexpectedly surprised at the world class red table wines that our cellars produce.
Calitzdorp is the ideal winter destination! Our days are mild and sunny and when evening falls, there is little to surpass the enjoyment of a glass of Cape Port or world class red wine while enjoying the warmth of a hearth fire – the ideal way to escape the wet winter weather of other parts of the country.
Calitzdorp extends a warm “Winter in Calitzdorp” welcome to you to enjoy the best we have to offer!
